Specialists of Moscow Aviation Institute suggest the creation of a manned spacecraft 100 meters in diameter for deep space exploration, according to the thesis of the report which was read at the Korolev Readings Scientific Conference.

A cargo unmanned aerial vehicle capable of making a soft landing in case of emergency was created at Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University).

The Russian startup AL Technologies, founded by a graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute, is developing an environmentally friendly air-aluminum current source for facilities that for some reason do not have access to electrical networks.

Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) and the consortium “Airships of Yakutia” offer to use their experience, research and technological groundwork to solve the logistical problems of isolated and remote territories. The project has already received support from the government of the republic. It is planned that airships will carry people and cargo. EastRussia found out, if they will help the transport development of Yakutia. 

On November 27-30, the III World Innompic Games were held in the Indian city of Ghaziabad. It is an intellectual olympiad for the creators of breakthrough science-based startups. The Russian team was led by Kirill Lakhminov, a second-year student of MAI School №3 “Control Systems, Computer Science and Power Engineering”. The team took three first places in the nominations “Best Team Performance”, “Best in Business Design”, “The Most Creative Team”.

Not many of the leading scientists, under whose guidance projects will be implemented on mega-grants of the "seventh wave", are constantly working in Russia. And a very unusual situation is when a professor at a regional university becomes the head of a laboratory at a Moscow university. Under such conditions the mega-grant was won by Head of the Department of Theoretical Mechanics of Samara University, Professor Vladimir Aslanov, and Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University). Professor Aslanov told about the tasks of their joint project called “Space Flight Mechanics” and about what missions are really necessary outside the Earth. 

On December 11, within the framework of the VUZPROMEXPO-19 business program, a presentation of the V National Sky.tech Innovation Projects Competition was held, organized by the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) and Russian Helicopters. 

On November 27, the meeting on student research work for international students was held by the leaders of MAI NIRS Department.

On November 20, 2019, a delegation of 13 postgraduate students from Zhejiang University (People's Republic of China) visited Moscow Aviation Institute in the framework of VI International Week of Aerospace Technologies “Aerospace Science Week” (ASW).

On November 21, in the framework of the VI International Week of Aerospace Technologies “Aerospace Science Week”, the International Session of “Aviation and Cosmonautics” (AviaSpace-2019) conference was held at Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University).

On November 15, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) summed up the election results and published a list of academicians and corresponding members. Professor Oleg Mikhailovich Alifanov, Head of the Department 601 "Space Systems and Rocket Science" of Moscow Aviation University, Doctor of Technical Sciences, was elected as an academician of the RAS. 

MAI scientists presented Roscosmos an experiment plan, which is planned to be carried out on the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) until 2024. Its purpose is to develop a space debris recycling system and test a new, cheaper and more environmentally friendly way to deliver goods to the surface of the Earth. The experiment is led by a South Korean graduate student of Moscow Aviation Institute, Yoon Sung Wook.

On October 30-31, the 17th International Aviation Forum “Wings of the Future - 2019” was held in Moscow. The event was attended by a delegation of students from Moscow Aviation Institute.

High school students made a geographical discovery as part of the “World Space Week”, which took place in Cheboksary city (Russia). The tutor of a unique school project was Artyom Makarenko, a first-year student of the Institute No. 6  "Aerospace" MAI. Schoolchildren, with the support of MAI student, studied the melting of glaciers and analyzed satellite images when they discovered the alleged new island.

Cooperation between MAI and Gagarin Research & Test Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC) in 2019 achieved a “new orbit”: new joint plans on how to train cosmonauts and specialists for space industry starting from bachelor’s program and how to use MAI scientific developments in the interest of the GCTC.

On October 22, at the Open Innovations Forum 2019 in Skolkovo, an agreement was signed on cooperation between two innovative companies: the developer of the automatic sharing system for microtransport Samocat Sharing and the developer of environmentally friendly air-aluminum chemical power supplies AL Technologies, the founder of which is Konstantin Pushkin, a graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute.

On October 15, 2019, for the first time in Russia, young scientists from the Department 310 “Electric Power, Electromechanical and Biotechnical Systems” of Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) successfully tested a completely superconducting electric machine.

In the fall of 2019, the specialists of Moscow Aviation Institute together with the industrial partner LAR-Technology (St. Petersburg) developed and manufactured an experimental robotic production line for sheet and shaped products from composite materials with new thermoplastic polymer matrices. The new technology allows to automate the manufacture of sheet, shaped products, as well as three-layer panels.

The Digital UAV Forum of Moscow Aviation Institute will allow young scientists from Russia and Armenia to plunge into the world of IT development, artificial intelligence and drones.
