American expert gave a lecture on sensors and navigation systems

November 29, 2018

On November 27, 2018, Moscow Aviation Institute held a Seminar on “Sensors and Navigation Systems for GNSS Degradation and Under Difficult Interference Conditions” by Dr. George Schmidt (USA), a well-known specialist in the field of aircraft control and navigation

Positioning, speed and time signals from global navigation satellite systems are used worldwide. However, problems with the availability, reliability, and integrity of these signals pose threats to many transport systems and other users. All this made the navigation community look for reliable solutions. Based on his own experience of using navigation systems, the lecturer presented to MAI students and invited specialists from aerospace organizations a historical and personal point of view on what is required for various navigation applications now and in the future.

Konstantin Veremeenko, Associate Professor of the Department 305, Institute № 3 “"Control Systems, Informatics and Power Engineering" of MAI, says:

“George Schmidt was for a long time the editor-in-chief of one of the largest journals in control, navigation, and guidance, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is now a member of a number of authoritative communities in related engineering fields. George Schmidt comes to MAI to gave a lecture on this topic for the third time. His first lecture for students and a wide range of specialists was held in 1997, when he visited the university with an international team of lecturers from Germany, Holland, France, the USA and Canada. At that time, satellite navigation was only beginning to receive active distribution, and it is especially noteworthy that in their lectures international experts touched not only the GPS system, but also the Russian GLONASS. Such long-term and close communication with a world-class expert contributes to the promotion of MAI in the international market of educational, scientific and technical services.”
