MAI with TsAGI will prepare demonstrators of a passenger supersonic aircraft

The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute Named After Prof. N.E. Zhukovsky (TSAGI) will prepare demonstrators of a passenger supersonic aircraft for testing in two or three years. This was announced by TsAGI General Director Kirill Sypalo.

“These works of TsAGI are conducted jointly within the framework of the RUMBLE project with the European community. But also separately with Tupolev Design Bureau and Moscow Aviation Institute, was built the concept of an entire line of aircraft , ranging from a supersonic business passenger aircraft, providing transportation within the country and abroad, to a larger aircraft. Such developments are underway, ”- he said in an interview, which became part of the plot of the Roskosmos television studio.

“According to our feelings, we will need two or three years to create demonstrators that will allow us to answer key questions regarding energy and acoustic effects and approve these standards later,” - said Mr. Sypalo.

One of the main problems, he pointed out, is the acoustic impact and sound impact both in the airport zone and on the route of a supersonic aircraft. “Currently, TsAGI seems to have managed to find a compromise between the energy efficiency of a supersonic aircraft, determined primarily by the combination of aerodynamics and the location of the engines and their configuration, and the acoustic effect this aircraft has,” - said Mr. Sypalo.

Mr. Sypalo noted that a serial passenger supersonic aircraft may be ready in 2030-2031.
