MAI signed a cooperation agreement with Central South University

On September 4, 2018 Rector of MAI Mikhail Pogosyan and President of Central South University Tian Hongqi signed an agreement on creation of joint Master´s double degree program.

In May 2018 a delegation of Moscow Aviation Institute, during the trip to Chinese universities, visited Central South University (CSU). The May negotiations marked the beginning of development of a joint work plan. In July 2018 a delegation of CSU paid a return visit to MAI. Already then was discussed the question of establishment of the joint Master’s degree program.

September meeting was held at the highest level – the heads of two universities took part in the negotiations. The side of MAI delegation consisted of Rector Mikhail Pogosyan, Vice-Rector for scientific work Yuriy Ravikovich, Head of Directorate of advanced scientific programs Roman Klinovskiy, Advisor to Rector Anna Katkina and others.

The CSU delegation was represented by President Tian Honqui, Director of International Department Bai Yi, Dean of School of Aeronautics and Astronautics Luo Shibin and others.

Chinese colleagues were presented international projects, educational programs and industry connections of MAI, the results of cooperation with other Chinese partners and goals of joint educational project in training of highly qualified engineers to building a wide-body aircraft.

The negotiations concluded with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on the creation of Master’s double degree program in the field of polymer composite materials. It means that students of the program will spend one year of education at CSU and one year at MAI. After successful graduation they will receive Double Russian-Chinese Diploma.  Rector of MAI Mikhail Pogosyan and President of Central South University Tian Hongqi handed each other presents in honor of the successful conclusion of the meeting. Both sides expressed interest in further fruitful cooperation.

“In-depth aerospace research is a new field for our university. Especially we are interested in aviation meteorological services. We have already had a School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, but we would like to expand our educational programs and to exchange experience between our universities . MAI is one of the leading university in aerospace field. We would like to build a long-term cooperation with your university, and joint Master’s double degree program is a great start!”, - said President of Central South University Tian Hongqi.

In 2017 MAI concluded such agreements on joint Master’s degree programs with number of Chinese universities: Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics , Shenyang Aerospace University and Beihang University.

Students of join programs have already entered the second year of education at MAI. The development of cooperation with Chinese universities is growing rapidly and moved to the next stage of negotiations. Now the main points of discussion are to establish a joint Bachelor's double degree programs and to conclude of agreements on academic exchange programs.
