MAI celebrated the Day of Knowledge - 2018
September 3, 2018 students and specialists of Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) celebrated the Day of Knowledge. In the festive events, dedicated to the beginning of the academic year, participated more than 5000 MAI students.
The celebration started with the procession of first-year students: in the columns of the faculties and institutes MAI newest students passed a solemn march on the territory of the university. A separate column was made for numerous international freshmen of MAI: 278 representatives of 39 countries, who study at our university, carried flags of their states.
Rector of MAI Mikhail Pogosyan greeted students on the main stage of MAI. In his address to freshmen, Mikhail Pogosyan stressed, that he was very glad to see such well-trained and motivated students on this day. With warmth, Rector invited new students to join a friendly MAI family and become full participants of university brotherhood.
Mikhail Pogosyan remarked: "MAI is the environment for the cooperation of education, science and industry. This is a way of life: creativity, sport, volunteering. This is a university brotherhood. It is an opportunity to receive prompt and adequate feedback on your endeavour and initiatives. Technologies are rapidly changing our lives, MAI is changing, and to be good for the university, the agenda for these changes needs to be formed together. Therefore, I want to assure you: you are welcome here. You became members of a large and friendly MAI family. Good luck, dear first-year students!”
Further with congratulatory words to students were addressed the pilot-cosmonaut, the Hero of the Russian Federation Mikhail Tyurin, Head of the flight service company "Sukhoi", Honored Test Pilot, Hero of the Russian Federation Sergey Bogdan, pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of the Russian Federation Alexander Lazutkin, director and general designer of the design bureau. A.Lyulki Evgeny Marchukov and other honored guests.
The convocation ceremony to students was completed by one of the most touching and exciting moments of the day: thousands of balloons soared simultaneously went to the sky, personifying the successful start in life, that all of MAI students receive.
"For me it is a great pride to study at MAI. I dreamed of studying at an aviation or space university. MAI gives me both the opportunities to achieve my goal. I have enrolled in the Aerospace Faculty of MAI. I would like to be an astronaut in the future!", - said Pavel Azangu from Cameroon.
Prizes, gifts and concert program for MAI students
Festive events were held at the University Square and the Alley of Cosmonauts all day. At the Alley of Cosmonauts all participants were able to get acquainted with a variety of interactive scientific sites. Also there were held sport competitions, and attractions. In addition, everyone could register for participation in the programs of the Voluntary Center of MAI.
On the main stage of the festival was a concert program with participation of the brightest and dynamic creative teams of MAI. Day of Knowledge was decorated by the performances of dance studio “DSM”, cheerleading team “Jetix” and solo artists.
Work of the main stage continued with the awarding of winners of the competitions with prizes and gifts. The award ceremony was held by Rector of MAI. Three freshmen won superprizes: new laptops. And in the final headliners of the concert program performed for MAI students their songs: the pop rock band Brothers Grim and Russian rapper Kravts.
International cooperation and new opportunities for students
A special feature of the Day of Knowledge celebration was a rich international program. At the Museum and Exhibition Complex of MAI was held an important to the university event: the grand opening of the photo exhibition “Qian Xuesen - the founder of Chinese astronautics”, partner with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Rector of MAI, as well as Chinese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Li Hui and President of SJTU Zhongqin Lin, took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition. More about the exhibition (link)
In the evening, the solemn opening of the second academic year of the MAI-SJTU joint Master’s degree program took place at the Main Educational Building of MAI. This year, 52 students of the program, who spent the whole of last year in Shanghai, will study at MAI. Rector of MAI and the president of SJTU congratulated students with the beginning of the second academic year.
The Day of Knowledge at MAI in 2018 demonstrated all the new opportunities that the university could provide to its students today. Encouraged by this wonderful start of education, the first-year students will begin their journey to the successful future together with MAI.
