First Internship for International Students of MAI in Russia

June 14, 2018

On June 13 was held the opening of work experience internship for international students of Moscow Aviation Institute at the "Vympel" State Engineering Design Bureau JSC named after I.I. Toropov (Moscow). For the first time in the history of MAI the international students will do an internship at Russian military-industrial company. The internship consists of lectures and practical training.

The idea of the organization of internship for international students has come from the International Department of MAI. In January 2018, it was made possible to conclude an agreement on cooperation in the field of practical education with JSC “Vympel”, engaged in the production of missiles for aviation purposes. Design Bureau "Vympel" was founded in 1949. There were designed the missiles for the legendary fighter aircrafts MiG-21 and Su-20, a whole family of "K" missiles and anti-aircraft air-to-air missiles. JSC “Vympel” is the current Russian research and production company in the development and serial production of aviation weapons.

International students, who study at the second and third year of the Faculty No. 1 “Aircraft Engineering”, Institute No. 2 “Aviation, Rocket Engines and Power Installations”, Institute No. 3 "Control Systems, Informatics and Power Engineering" and Institute No. 6 «Aerospace Engineering», will do the practical training at JSC “Vympel” . The students from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and other countries study in Russian at MAI.

The students were divided into three groups. The first group, consisting of 48 second-year students, has already started practical classes, the second group, consisting of third-year students, will do the internship in August, and the third group in autumn. It is planned that the third group will consist of international students who study in English-language programs of MAI.

For two weeks students will visit JSC “Vympel” and listen to lectures of PhD professors, high-class engineers and designers of missile technology. The main point is that the students will have an opportunity to train on missiles’ samples of various classes and on aviation techniques. On the first day of work experience internship, a group of international students listened to the introductory lecture dedicated to the missiles and a lecture entitled "Corrected aviation bombs”.

Lectures were held in modern computerized training classes with many samples of Russian missiles. Each student was given a notebook, which included aerodynamic schemes and technical characteristics of air missiles and bombs.

"At the first faculty of MAI we study “Aircraft Engineering”, but here we can learn how air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles and bombs work. Therefore, this knowledge is very useful, " - admitted Izzuddin Bin Ishaq, a second-year student from Malaysia.

The beginning of the internship programs for international students of MAI is a good sign and means that the future specialists will have a high level experience after graduation.
