Our Students in Shanghai: Meetup with Ban Ki-moon and Calligraphy Lesson
On January 9, students of a Master’s program implemented jointly by Moscow Aviation Institute and Shanghai Jiao Tong University met with Ban Ki-moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations (retired). The meeting was held at International Calligraphy Center, the SJTU affiliated institution.
The students were lectured about the history of Chinese calligraphy and then offered to practice in it. They drew hieroglyphs on Chinese lanterns; the mass launching of the lanterns is a tradition for Chinese New Year celebration.
After the lesson students met with Dr. Ban Ki-moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, who talked about his mission of strengthening peace in the world, revealing good knowledge of the Russian language. He explained that he currently was studying it with the same passion that he had while studying calligraphy in young age.
At the end of the meeting, the politician wished the students to pass the exams successfully and go further, discovering the opportunities of the modern world.
