MAI scientists suggested using solar-powered rockets

Scientists from Moscow Aviation Institute consider that small-lift launch vehicles could use upper-stage rockets with solar thermal rocket engines, writes "Russian planet". efficiency of such upper-stage rockets will increase the operability in 1.5-2 times.

According to experts at present the traditional liquid boosters are already at their limit.

Scientists from Russia recommend using solar-powered rockets.

Innovative engine based on solar cell batteries will be composed of a receiving device with solar photovoltaic cells  which convert solar radiation into electrical energy.

With the use of such engines upper-stage rockets will be able to output the available payload to geostation orbit.
