Summer School for students from the UAE started in MAI

On July 29, the first Russian Summer School for students from the United Arab Emirates started at Moscow Aviation Institute. During a unique two-week intensive course, 20 students of the joint Bachelor's degree program of MAI and Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi) will study composite materials design techniques and manufacturing technologies for aircraft construction.

The program was opened by Mikhail Pogosyan, Rector of MAI, and Sergey Gorkov, Chairman of the Russian-United Arab Emirates Business Council.

– Our program, elaborated together with Khalifa University, takes education for joint international projects to a new level. It grants profound knowledge and experience that will be useful in future work. After all, our main task is to prepare people for real projects, – Mikhail Pogosyan said, addressing the students.

Sergey Gorkov noted that the first Summer School will lay a good foundation for further cooperation between Russia and the UAE in the field of personnel training not only for aircraft construction and space, but also for other high-tech industries.

The Summer School program consists of both theoretical part and in-depth practical training of students basing on the work with MAI laboratories. The participants will create a multilayer composite panel using the method of infusion and study its mechanical properties, master modern modeling tools in CAD systems, and conduct a number of strength tests. Upon completion of the intensive program, each participant will create a wing caisson project and test it in a virtual environment. It is also planned to introduce students to Russian culture on thematic excursions and workshops.

The Summer School became another step in the development of cooperation between MAI and Khalifa University. Since September 2023, a joint “Aircraft Engineering” bachelor's degree program for UAE citizens has been implemented on the basis of the two universities. The program aimed at comprehensive engineering education for the United Arab Emirates is built in a 3+1 format: students study at Khalifa University for the first three years, and the fourth year at MAI. Upon completion of their studies, graduates will receive diplomas of both universities.
