Students of the fifth batch of the MAI-SJTU Master's degree defended their graduation projects
Students of the fifth batch of the joint master's degree program of Moscow Aviation Institute and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) defended their graduation projects. On the 10th of January, they presented their work to the commission of the SJTU School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Earlier, in the summer of 2023, defenses were held at MAI.
The master's degree program at MAI-SJTU lasted two and a half years. Students were enrolled for the English-language programs in three areas: "Aircraft engines", "Design of aircraft structures made of polymer composite materials" and "Product lifecycle management technologies".
– I have always been a huge fan of the Asian culture in general, so the educational course in China became a dream that came true for me, – said Alina Romanova, a graduate student of Aircraft Engines. – The approach to learning, the assessment system, the rules of communication with teachers in China and Russia is very different, and we all gained valuable experience, were able to look at the same professional aspects from different angles. The approach to writing a diploma also differs. If the works for MAI were mostly of application significance, then the emphasis in the SJTU was on scientific novelty.
MAI and SJTU implement unique double degree programs aimed at comprehensive education of students from Russia and China. The partners of the programs are the largest industrial enterprises of the two countries. In 2017, three master's degree courses were opened. In 2019, the program was expanded with three bachelor's degree courses: "Aircraft Engineering", "Engine Building" and "Rocket Science". And since 2023, two new master's degree courses have been launched: "Rocket Science" and "Mathematical modeling in the design of aircraft". To date, more than 200 students are studying in all areas.
