The first student “Gagarin Readings” were held at MATI (later the Russian State Technological University named after K.E Tsiolkovsky) in the spring of 1974 – on the eve of Cosmonautics Day. After a while, the event grew into an all-Russian and then into an international youth scientific conference, which was attended by several generations of students, postgraduates and young scientists from more than 300 universities, research institutes and industrial enterprises in Russia, near and far abroad. After the merger of the two universities in 2015, MAI continued the tradition of hosting a conference.
