New format of the summer traineeship in MAI

August 2, 2023

Almost 100 first- and fifth-year students of Institute No. 1 “Aviation Engineering” of Moscow Aviation Institute completed their summer traineeship in a new experimental format within the course of the pilot project aimed at the individualization of education “IOT Space”. Teamwork, expert workshops and involvement of university laboratories in solving problems were the key points. Students from Russia, CIS and foreign countries were the participants.

MAI Center for Individualization of Education and Department 101 “Design and Certification of Aviation Equipment” became the organizers of the traineeship.  The students were divided into teams to work on tasks set by structural divisions of Moscow Aviation Institute, which they selected according to their interests and competencies. The tasks for the practice were prepared by the laboratories of Department 101, MAI Technopark "Takeoff Trajectory " and the laboratories of the Institute No. 14 "Advanced Engineering School". Each team was guided by the mentor in order to monitor progress and provide consultation.

After defining their roles in the team, the participants had to analyze the product they would be working on, formulate engineering solution, and provide the result in the form of a report and presentation. For example, they worked on such tasks as "IT Task Manager", "Digitization of parts and assemblies of aircraft units", "Multifunctional balloon", "Simulation of the SSJ cabin in the technological zone of the Technopark", "Ground-based unmanned harvester", "Control and identification system of UAV batteries" and others.

At the end of the practice, the teams defended their work in front of a commission, which consisted of employees of Department 101, project holders and experts. The development of the engineering component, the prospects for the development of the project and its attractiveness to investors were assessed. Rating of students was compiled according to the results of past events, on the basis of which a grade for summer practice was assigned.
