More than 700 students of the MAI “Digital Department” defended their final projects

The final team projects are being defended at the "digital department" of Moscow Aviation Institute. More than 700 students from four programs have already submitted their projects to the attestation committee, and many more will have to defend them this week.

The “Digital Department” was opened in the fall of 2022 in accordance with the MAI development model as part of the Priority-2030 program. It provides an opportunity to get a second qualification in IT free of charge in nine months in addition to the main one with diploma.

In the first year, six programs were launched at the MAI “Digital Department”, designed taking into account the requests of employers. The most demanded is “Digital Modeling and Supercomputer Technologies”. The programs “Technologies of machine learning and big data analysis in business”, “Intellectual and technical systems”, “Applied systems of engineering calculations”, “Methods of artificial intelligence for remote sensing”, “Methods of artificial intelligence and predictive analytics in flaw detection” are also being implemented.

Due to the active development of generative neural networks in the new academic year, the seventh program will be launched, it is called "Digital Technologies in the Social and Humanitarian Sphere". It will help students of economics and humanities master industrial engineering, understand how to use neural networks to solve their problems.

The “Digital Department” of MAI is part of the strategy of Moscow Aviation Institute for the training of interdisciplinary and complex experts. In addition to IT competencies, students develop soft skills that help them become in demand on the labor market.

Teamwork and leadership skills. Teamwork is one of the key aspects of learning in “Digital Department”. Students enrolled in different educational programs are united in teams to which a team leader is assigned. This approach allows to pump up the skills of effective communication, joint problem solving and leadership.

Practice in leading IT companies. “Digital Department” provides its students with unique opportunity to practice in leading IT companies in Russia. In total, the department has more than 20 partners. Sberbank, Cloud, S7 TechLab, RDL by Red mad robot are just a few examples of organizations where students put their knowledge into practice and gain work experience, which allows them to broaden their horizons and become more competitive at the labor market.

Projects that change the environment. Students' attestation projects are based on solving real problems. Among them, such as determining the contour of the BAM railway on satellite images using neural network, a forecast model for a weather station based on interpolated data, the development of swarm intelligence algorithms for autonomous agricultural machinery, the development of synthetic data generators for mining, construction industries and light industry.

The “Digital Department” is a unique educational space where students can develop their skills and implement relevant projects with the support of experienced professors based on leading IT companies. In the next academic year, the department plans to recruit 2300 students.
