MAI team is the winner of the international rugby-7 tournament "Cup of Victory"
For the first time in history, the rugby-7 "Cup of Victory" was played in Minsk. MAI team received an invitation to take part in international competitions from the Rugby Federation of the Republic of Belarus as the strongest student team in Moscow. At the tournament, MAI competed for medals with the teams of universities in Russia and Belarus.
The organizers of the competition were the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, the Rugby Federation of Belarus and the Student Rugby League.
– We gladly accepted the invitation and due to the efforts of the Youth Policy Department of our university, which was organizing the departure of our team, we began to prepare hard for the competition, – said Valery Khromenkov, senior coach of the MAI Rugby team. – The preparation took place in difficult conditions: students were at the exams, and three players defended their graduation projects in June and successfully coped with it. Despite the difficulties, the guys took training responsibly, which had to be held at eight in the evening. As a result, the team went to Minsk.
Moscow Aviation Institute was supported by: Daniil Berezovsky, Dmitry Degtyarev, Dmitry Fedotov (Institute No. 6), Ilya Valuev (Institute No. 9), Vsevolod Kulabukhov (Institute No. 11), Alexey Markin (Institute No. 5), Daniil Medvedev, Daniil Pavlov (Institute No. 3), Ikhvan Muhammad, Nikita Tarasov (Institute No. 2), Vitaly Proshin, Sergey Skornyakov (Institute No. 12).

In the first game MAI met with rugby players of Gomel State University named after F. Skorina, which is one of the strongest student teams in Belarus. The athletes of Moscow Aviation Institute in this match did not leave any chance for the opponent to win, winning with a score of 49:0.
Then MAI team played with the team of the sports club of the Army of the Republic of Belarus, which consisted of students from military universities of the country. The rugby players of the Moscow Aviation Institute turned out to be stronger in technical and tactical preparations and won with a score of 31:0.
In the finals, MAI team competed for the title of champions with a traditional rival in Moscow competitions – MEPhI team.
According to the coach of the MAI Team Andrey Zhigulsky, the teams know each other very well, so from the first minutes a struggle unfolded on the field. But, as in Moscow, MEPhI rugby players failed to beat MAI. The game ended with a score of 17:7.The winners of the first "Cup of Victory" were the rugby players of Moscow Aviation Institute.
