MAI residents won medals at the European Karate Championship

The European Karate Championship in armor (Koshiki karate) took place in Minsk. More than 250 participants from six countries took part in the competition. Students of Moscow Aviation Institute won three awards. Sergey Shatunov, senior lecturer of MAI department 519 “Physical Education”, Vice-president of the Moscow Martial Arts Federation, trains them.

Victoria Kryukova from Institute No. 5 “Economics and Management of high-tech industry” won gold. She said that the key to success is desire, backed up by regular training, the ability to overcome yourself and the difficulties that arise, as well as constant movement forward.“Independence attracts me in martial arts. There is you versus your opponent on tatami – there is no one to rely on, only on yourself,” – says Victoria. “At the championship, I got into the same category with the girls with blue and black belts. But I represented MAI and could not let down the people who gave me the opportunity to show my abilities at competitions in another country. My victory proves that the time I devote to training and self-improvement is not wasted, and I am moving in the right direction.”

Allaberdy Tenliyev from the Institute No. 3 “Control systems, Informatics and Electric Power Engineering” also won a gold medal. Timur Seytov from Institute No. 4 “Radio Electronics, Infocommunications and Information Security” won bronze.

“Basically, the fights ended quickly, with clear advantage of our sportsmen,” commented coach Sergey Shatunov. “Timur's opponent, despite winning two points, withdrew from the final, as he could not continue the fights.”

It is not the first time that MAI shows high results in this sport at international level. Last November, MAI residents won the World Karate in armor Championship, taking second and two third places.
