MAI resident found himself in stand-up: "Humor makes me happy"

Student of Moscow Aviation Institute Sergey Galakhov has been doing stand-up for two years already. He started with the KVN club in MAI, but then decided to perform solo. Now he organizes stand-up evenings in his native Troitsk. Sergey told us about his path.

Sergey is a third-year student at Institute No. 5 "Economics and Management of High-tech Industry". He participates in the research and creative life of the university, he is also fond of photography — his pictures can be seen on banners in MAI.

— The aviation industry is very prestigious. When you say that you are from MAI, it makes me proud! — the third-year student shares. — I would like to study here longer. No wonder they say MAI is not a school, you can't graduate in 10 years. At the university, I found friends who are always ready to help me overcome difficult times. For me, this is the coolest thing about being a student.

"The more bad performances, the more good experience"

Sergey's journey into the world of humor began with the MAI KVN club. At first, he performed in a duet with his classmate Andrey Milenky. After the victory of the guys at the KVN University Cup, more experienced players (current members of the MAI National Team, bronze medalists of the KVN Higher League) offered Sergey to try himself in stand-up. He remembers the first performance clearly.

— I was telling a not very funny short story for two minutes, but the audience even laughed a couple of times. It seems to me that it was bad. I think if someone thinks their first performance is good, they just don't remember anything. The more bad performances you do, the better you understand how not to do it," says Sergey.

Sergey advises students who want to start doing humor to start with the MAI KVN club, the number of teams in which increases every year. Experienced editors do their best to make the first presentation as good as possible.

— You can immediately try yourself in stand-up, perform on open microphones, but this is a rather difficult path if you have not had any experience in humor before, — he warns. — A beginner, in order to check the material on stage, needs to either bring guests with him to the venue, or pay 400-500 rubles each.

Stand-up is about life

Sergey writes his monologues inspired by what is going on around him. He says that stand-up is more about life, unlike KVN. He has jokes about working in catering, his first car – the re-exported short-wing “eight” produced in 90-ies, about relationships. He loves absurd humor, improvisation, remakes songs.

— My favorite joke is about the tradition of our family to give the name Sergey to the eldest son. Once, to fly with my grandfather to London, my father had to get a permit from a notary. It looked like this: "I, Sergey Sergeevich Galakhov, allow Sergey Sergeevich Galakhov to fly with Sergey Sergeevich Galakhov to London." There was the note added: "Galakhov Sergey Sergeevich, Galakhov Sergey Sergeevich and Galakhov Sergey Sergeevich are three different people," the comedian said.

A third-year student wants to reach great heights in humor. Family and friends support his hobby and come to his performances. Mom and his girlfriend Naran especially like monologues.

— Writing jokes that cause laughter is very cool. When you stand on the stage and people laugh, you get an incredibly strong charge of positive emotions," he admits. — It makes me happy.
