MAI scientists will present the solutions for prospective space system at ItSL 2022

The scientists of Moscow Aviation Institute and Bauman Moscow State Technical University have identified the key consumer properties of a prospective space transportation system. The research will help to ensure the economic efficiency and high competitive advantages for Russian companies providing transport and maintenance services for orbital complexes at the global space market.

The report dedicated to this topic will be presented at the "Infrastructure and transport and logistics systems of Russia: technologies, materials, security", ItSL 2022, the Russian (with international participation) scientific and practical conference, which will be held on July 13 in poster format. The event is organized by the Association for the Support of Scientific Research together with transport universities of Russia, Belarus and Uzbekistan.

In order to achieve higher level of technical perfection of spacecraft it is necessary to use new, higher-quality, but also more expensive materials, to complicate the technology and increase the complexity of the production of space technology, to increase the volume of research, design and testing work, etc. This requires additional investments and leads to an increase in the initial cost of the space transportation system. Therefore, it is important for the developer, manufacturer, and customer of space technology to have a methodology to assess the payback of additional investments at the early stages of the product life cycle due to the benefits received from improving the technical and operational performance of the space transport system. And the work of scientists of MAI and Bauman Moscow State Technical University is devoted to that aspect exactly.

- Transportation and maintenance of orbital complexes is the most capacious segment of the space service market. The leading positions here can be secured, first of all, due to the growth of the possibilities of providing transport services using promising reusable returnable vehicles. The implentation of new technologies and innovations in the creation of promising reusable returnable vehicles will significantly reduce the cost of the space transport system not only at the stages of development and production, but also at the stage of its operation," emphasizes Nikita Zakataev, the member of the project research team, MAI graduate student.

As he notes, one of the main criteria for the effectiveness of transport and technical services in the space services market is the cost of putting a kilogram of payload mass into a given orbit. When launching, it is important to reduce fuel consumption, which is associated with the decrease of the flight mass of the launch vehicle and the transport spacecraft, the presence of reusable rocket blocks of the first stage and reusable returnable vehicles with a high frequency of use without major repairs in the space transport system.

Posters and video reports of the conference participants will be available at the website.
