“Engineer – the profession of the digital age” – MAI Rector gave lecture at the "Engineers of the Future" forum
On July 3, Mikhail Pogosyan, Rector of Moscow Aviation Institute, addressed the participants of the International Youth Industrial Forum X "Engineers of the Future", that was organized by the Union of Machine Builders of Russia. The forum was carried out from June 27 to July 7 on the territory of the recreation center "Miner" in the Tula region. More than 1,000 people attended the event this year.
Mikhail Pogosyan gave a lecture to young experts and students, titled “Engineer – the profession of the digital age”. He touched upon the trends of technology development, highlighting digitalization, personalization, artificial intelligence, new materials and environmental friendliness. He also listed the most promising future markets: the commercial aircraft market, unmanned aircraft systems, Big Data and MRO (maintenance and repair) markets.
MAI Rector noted in particular that the formation of systemic air mobility, that is, the transition to people transportation via unmanned vehicles, might be expected by 2042 already, and over the next 10 years the world market of unmanned aerial vehicles will grow by about 10 times and will amount to more than $100 billion.
Intelligent onboard control system, hydrogen fuel cells, smart fuselage design and electric motor based on the principles of superconductivity he assigned to the critical technologies that are required for the air mobility market formation.
“MAI is working over an ambitious task today: we are now creating such a device," Mikhail Pogosyan said.
He assigned the most important role in future markets shaping to complex engineers. Such engineers should combine basic engineering competencies, knowledge and IT and business skills together with meta-competencies, such as comprehensive vision of engineering tasks, the ability to build interdisciplinary communication, work in project teams, focusing on the final product or service.
"The formula of success is the achievement of clear ambitious goals under the guidance of talented leaders by the team of hardworking professionals," Mikhail Pogosyan underlined.
