September 29, 2021
Moscow Aviation Institute team will compete for victory in the final of the 44th International Student World Championship in Programming of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM International College Programming Contest). The competition will last from October 1 to October 6 and is to be held for the first time in Moscow – at the premises of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.Teams of about 3,500 universities from all over the world competed for the right to participate in the final of the prestigious championship. Only 128 the strongest managed to overcome all the previous stages, MAI team led by Valentin Zaitsev, associate professor of the department 806 "Computational Mathematics and Programming", being among them.Moscow Aviation Institute reaches the world final of the competition for the sixth time. During the past years, MAI was included in the 1% of the strongest IT universities in the world three times, occupying the 14th, 27th and 31st places. This year team member – graduate student of department 806 Sergey Gorelyshev – is performing in the final for the second time already.– For me, participation in the ACM championship means excitement, the spirit of competition and the test, as well as excellent line in for my CV, – says Sergey. At competitions, teams will have to develop programs for the assigned tasks, independently selecting the relevant solution algorithms and analyzing them.It is necessary not only to solve the problems correctly, but also to do it fast, making the least mistakes, – he explains. – At the same time, it is important to keep within the frames set by the organizers – time limit and memory limit. If the program uses more time or memory, then the solution will not be valid.Sergey notes the high competition in the championship, but he hopes that the knowledge gained at Moscow Aviation Institute and the skills of teamwork will help MAI players take their rightful place in the final table.– MAI has been one of the leading IT universities in Russia for many years due to systematic training, including mathematical, algorithmic and IT disciplines in the curricula of educational programs of Institute No. 8 "Information Technologies and Applied Mathematics".For many years, the department 806 "Computational Mathematics and Programming" has been building the effective system for students training for programmers competitions, starting from the very first year, – says the head of department 806 Sergey Krylov. – This system allows teams to perform very successfully at competitions. Over the years, MAI students won dozens of prizes at prestigious Moscow, All-Russian and international competitions in computer science, programming and information technology, and we are aimed at further results improvement. On October 1-2, an open business program of the championship will be held in Manezh Central Exhibition Hall. Representatives of Yandex, MegaFon, Playrix, Rosatom State Corporation, Raiffeisenbank, Russian Post, CROC Incorporated, 1C, VTB, etc. will be the speakers there.
