MAI students become champions of the University Cup inter-university sports tournament

On 15-16 May, MAI athletes took part in the second University Cup 2020 inter-university sports tournament, a pre-season inter-university tournament in ice hockey, curling, volleyball, table tennis, rugby, track and field, and bench press (due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the University Cup 2020 tournament was postponed until 2021). The project is supported by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh). The competition was held in Zelenograd at the sports base of the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology.

Moscow Aviation Institute rugby team once again reaffirmed its status as the strongest student team in Moscow, defeating the RUDN and MIET teams. In the final game, our boys faced off against RCTU. Good physical and technical preparation helped our team win with a score of 43:0 and take first place. MAI boys were coached by MAI Valery Khromenkov and Andrei Zhigulsky, senior lecturers of Department 519 "Physical Education".

In track and field athletics Mayev's students won second place in the team classification, and also showed excellent results in individual disciplines:

Ekaterina Shabunina, student of Institute No. 3, took 1st place in the 1000m race;
Robert Shagiev, a student of Institute No. 6, took first place in the 3,000 metres race;
Maria Astanina, student of Institute No. 4, 2nd place in the 100 metres race;
Institute No. 6 student Alexander Chebukhanov - 2nd place in the 400 metres race.
Our team also won second place in the relay race 4×200 metres. The track and field athletes are coached by Marina Filatova and Sergei Oskin, senior lecturers of the 519th "Physical Education" department.

In the Bench Press competition, our guys won the third team place. Also, the third place in the individual competition was taken by Nurlan Turabayev, a student of Institute № 3. The team was coached by the senior lecturer of MAI Department 519, Sergey Kosarev.

Men's and women's table tennis teams of MAI took the third team place. Our table tennis players are coached by senior lecturer of Chair 519 Sergey Mityayev and associate professor Alexander Mizin.

In addition, on May 16 the XXXIII Moscow Student Games competition in diving took place. In a tough struggle against the teams of Moscow State University, Moscow State Technical University and Russian State University of Physical Culture and Sport, our athletes won second place. The team was coached by Sergei Tsarev, a senior lecturer of the 519th Department.
