The IV Aviahackathon is launched at MAI

April 23, 2021
The fourth Aviahackathon has started at the Moscow Aviation Institute and will run from 23 to 25 April. This year, like last year, it will be held online. More than 700 people became participants of the largest-scale hackathon in the Russian aviation industry, mainly students of MAI, ITMO, MIREA, Tupolev Kazan National Research Technological University, National Polytechnic University of Armenia, Saint-Petersburg State Technical University, Saint-Petersburg State Technical University, and others. Alexander Shemyakov, Pro-Rector for Strategic Development of MAI, welcomed the participants at the opening ceremony of the Aviahackathon.
"Today in MAI technologies are born and educational programs are implemented in various topical directions including information technologies", - he noted. "Areas of mathematical modeling, digital production, internet of things, virtual and augmented reality, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other IT technologies are actively developing at MAI today".
The AviaHackathon is traditionally organized by specialists of the MAI IT-Center and WINNO Moscow - the first innovation international accelerator and hub in Russia. The general partner was the flagship educational program of the Sistema Charitable Foundation Lift to the Future. This is an all-Russian career guidance program and edtech platform to enhance career opportunities and professional development in Sistema companies.
"MAI traditionally trains strong programmers and creates a practice-oriented environment for their development," highlighted Yulia Selyukova, director of educational programs of Sistema Charitable Foundation, addressing the participants of the hackathon. "In the space and aviation industry Russian specialists are traditionally one of the strongest in the world. The Lift to the Future program has been supporting the development of engineering education for 10 years. We are sure that at the Aviahkaton the participants will learn a lot of new things, work on the topical problems of the industry, and the best solutions will be put into practice".
During its existence, Aviahackathon has become one of the full-fledged elements of the large IT environment of the MAI. Every year, the event attracts more and more partners, participants, and experts: while in 2018 the Aviahackathon brought together 25 teams, in 2021 this number has more than quadrupled, and the number of partner companies has exceeded 50 for the entire period.
