MAI holds "Gagarin Readings" Youth Scientific Conference

On 20 April, the XLVII "Gagarin Readings" International Youth Scientific Conference was opened at Moscow Aviation Institute. The event took place in a mixed format and concluded on 23 April.

More than 1500 students, postgraduates, and young specialists of aerospace universities and enterprises from more than 130 cities of Russia and 15 foreign countries took part and presented the results of their research activities. A total of about 500 papers were presented at the event, more than 100 of them online.

The conference began with an opening ceremony. The first to welcome the participants was Yury Ravikovich, IAI Vice-Rector for Research, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. He noted that the conference was a good start for young scientists, researchers and inventors and wished the participants success in their research activities, determination and new discoveries.

Then a specialist of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a graduate student of the Department 610 "Rocket and Space Systems Operation Management" of Institute № 6 "Aerospace" of MAI Dmitry Sergeevich Zarubin delivered a lecture on "Scientific and technical aspects of modern programs for research and exploration of the Moon", followed by a meeting of the sections "Aircraft Systems", "Rocket and Space Systems", "Mathematical Methods in Aerospace Science and Technology". Also as part of the first day of the conference, an Open Day of the MAI Postgraduate School was held.

The scientific programme of the conference includes meetings of 32 thematic sections in such areas as control systems, information technology, electric power, robotics, power plants, aerospace systems, mathematical methods, production technology, economics and enterprise management, advanced materials and others. The conference programme includes an international session in English.

The conference also included an international section in English, for which 24 applications were submitted, most of which were from MAI's international students. There were 14 speakers. The best papers of the section were:

1st place: "Thermally induced vibrations of beam structures using Isogeometric Analysis" (Wu Jianchen, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics);
2nd place: "Design and Analysis of Fuel Injectors for Liquid Propulsion Combustion Chamber" (Paul Arnab, MAI);
3rd place: "Numerical study of GH2/LO2 combustion in a single coaxial injector test case" (Grimsley Bishal, MAI).
