MAI Сelebrated the 60th Anniversary of the First Flight of Man to the Outer Space

On the 12th of April, Cosmonautics Day was celebrated tremendously in Moscow Aviation Institute. 2021 is the jubilee year – it was exactly 60 years ago that Yury Gagarin carried out the orbital flyby of the planet Earth for the first time, not only opening the way to outer space for the whole of mankind, but also giving us faith in ourselves, our talents, strengths, and capabilities."Equal Dialogue: Space 60 years ago and nowadays" event was held as part of the celebration program in the main educational building of Moscow Aviation Institute. The event was attended by MAI Rector, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Pogosyan, Head of the MAI Department 601 "Space Systems and Rocket Engineering", Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Oleg Alifanov, pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR, Hero of the USSE, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Lebedev, First Head of SDB “Iskra” and the developer of MAI first student satellite – Sergey Mostinsky.At the meeting, the experts talked about the history of space exploration, discussed personnel training and prospects of the aerospace industry development, and also communicated to the audience, answered the questions. The event was live broadcasted, so everyone could join it.MAI residents also took part in the "Spacewalk" quiz and the MAI Rector's mini-football Cup game – and the team of the Institute No. 6 "Aerospace" won it successfully!The MAI Volunteer Center "Flight to Success" competition was also held at the site of the Admissions Committee. On Cosmonautics Day the finalists fought in an intellectual battle, demonstrated their leadership qualities and their creative achievements via video business cards.At the first stage, the participants with the support of the "Mosvolonter" Resource Center passed the "Your Own Game" training devoted to team leadership in the volunteer movement. Then the children were expected to defend the video presentation on the topic "The story of a volunteer's success." The expert jury of the competition was attended by the head of organizational development and interaction with the media of the Moscow regional branch of the Russian public organization "Union of Mechanical Engineers of Russia" Evgeny Baranov, representatives of the "Mosvolonter" Resource Center Yulia Kuznetsova and Daria Salyikova, assistant to the chairman of MAI students Union Committee Sergei Parshikov, head of the Volunteer Center Elena Yankovaya.Interuniversity discussion "Towards the Stars" was also held at MAI Museum and Exhibition Complex, it was organized by the History Department of Moscow Aviation Institute in cooperation with Anatoly Zhdanov, Director of MAI Museum and Exhibition Complex. The discussion was attended by Professor of Institute No. 2 "Aviation, Rocket Engines, and Power Plants", Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Garry Popov, head of the student space design bureau “Iskra” Sergey Firsyuk, as well as students, postgraduates and employees of MAI, MSU, RUDN, MGUPP, RTU MIREA. The employees of MAI Museum and Exhibition Complex prepared the exhibition of cosmonauts’ photographs with their autographs for the anniversary.
