MAI gets gold medals at the Eurasian Student Martial Arts Games for the third time

February 12, 2021

On February 5-7, MAI team took part in the III Open Eurasian Student Martial Arts Games. The event took place in Ufa with the support of the branch of the Russian Union of Martial Arts in the Bashkortostan Republic gathering teams from over 100 European and Asian universities. Competitions were held in nine kinds of sports: aikido, belt wrestling, all-style karate, kickboxing, mas-wrestling, sambo, Thai boxing, taekwondo and wushu. Consisting of 11 people, the MAI team performed successfully and gained a total of ten medals: three gold, five silver and two bronze. Two of the medals were conquered by MAI international students, Allaberdi Tenliev and Danila Kravchenko.

The MAI team leader Sergei Shatunov, who is the senior teacher of department 519 «Physical education», is the Vice-President of the Federation of Martial Arts (Moscow). The senior teacher of department 519, Evgeny Krupnik, was the trainer of the team.

Sergei Shatunov told us about the performance of the international students in the competition:

«Danila Kravchenko from Kyrgyzstan, who got the silver medal at the all-style karate competition, is a very hardworking guy. Not only he has a talent, but he trains scrupulously. I think that the jury’s assessment was quite subjective because he performed much better than the gold medal winner.

As to our gold medal winner, Allaberdi Tenliev, I met him a week before the tournament, he only trained 7 times with me. He is usually training with another coach. Allaberdi is very outgoing, he blended into our team very fast. His didn’t win a prize in the unmanned combat, so he decided to participate in a mixed wrestling competition. He tried hard, and yet his rival was older and more experienced, he won».
