Mikhail Pogosyan re-elected as the MAI Rector

On January 21, the Conference for the MAI students and employees was held in the MAI Cultural Center. One of the agenda topics was the elections of a new Rector of MAI, which were carried out in full compliance with the current public health requirements.At the beginning of the Conference, the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Petr Kucherenko addressed the delegates.Three candidates applied for the position of Rector: Oleg Dolgov, Pavel Iosifov and Mikhail Pogosyan.The candidates presented their programs and answered the questions of the audience in compliance with the rules of the event. After the formal part of the event, voting by secret ballot took place resulting in the re-election of Mikhail Pogosyan, who gained 86% of all votes. In his final speech Mikhail Pogosyan expressed his gratitude to the delegates for giving credence to him.
“I really appreciate the atmosphere of the University that we are having these days. We are all members of one big team. Together we will go places and be proud of it”, Mr. Pogosyan announced.
Mikhail Pogosyan has been the Rector since 2016. During the period of his rectorship, the main indicators of the of University exhibited significant growth as far as the scientific activity, education and international integration are concerned, becoming the most dynamically developing University in Russia.For example, the volume of R&D performed has increased by almost 90%, while the annual number of publications in the international citation systems has risen by almost 3 times. The indicator of the foreign students enrollment increased for more than 2.5 times; the Unified State Exam cumulative grade point average of the school graduates enrolled increased by more than 14 points.Thanks to its achievements, MAI is now listed in the World University Ranking – the annual top higher education institutes rating published by the Times Higher Education (THE).New MAI Academic Board was also elected via the secret ballot procedure at the conference.
