At the intersection of knowledge: MAI launches new "Digital Economy" bachelor program
The main qualities of a modern engineer and the key to competitiveness in the labor market are the following skills: the ability to adjust to the current market conditions in the situation of constant changes, the ability to find original solutions, and also to apply interdisciplinary skills to solve complex problems.
In today's competitive struggle, the enterprise that is able to work effectively with information, including the big data, and to implement information technologies intelligently is the winner. Therefore, specialists with knowledge not only in the field of information technology, but also in the field of economics become highly demanded in the labor market. Taking into consideration the abovementioned, the Moscow Aviation Institute launched the new "Digital economy" educational program, that will allow the engineers to get additional economic competencies and develop soft-skills.
The MAI program trains experts of a new formation
The aerospace industry is an intensively developing high-tech industry, consuming and generating new knowledge, including the IT-knowledge. Not only as far as the production sector is concerned, but also the economy and enterprise management. The issue of the need for specialists of a new formation with modern knowledge in the field of automation of economic processes and working with information resources is extremely acute.
"The unique feature of our program is that the specific individual educational trajectory will be developed for each student, allowing for the most convenient integration of two fulltime training programs into a single educational process," - states Sergey Vyacheslavovich Novikov, the Director of the MAI Institute No. 5 "Engineering Economics and Humanities". "The bachelor will be armed with such competencies as the ability to apply knowledge and skills to organizing the infrastructure of the digital economy and digital transformation of a commercial enterprise, to identify and analyze digital security problems; to organize and control work based on modern digital technologies; to apply analytical skills and work with big data, to manage cyber physical systems and new collaborative processes."
Another unique trait of the program is that the student may study there in parallel with the main fulltime course. In other words, after graduation he will receive two diplomas at once.
Digital economy program graduates’ career prospects
"Since MAI primarily trains experts for the aerospace industry, the employment will most likely happen in this area. However, the graduates will also be able to get employment in enterprises of other high-tech industries, in the financial and banking sector, large trading platforms, budget organizations, public authorities, as well as to start their own businesses and participate in startups and various investment activities," - noted Sergey Vyacheslavovich.
It is also worth mentioning that a graduate is awarded with a bachelor's degree in economics, meaning that he will be able to work in any position that requires a degree in economics – starting from financier and accountant, ending with a manager or a market researcher, and further up to an economist-cyberneticist.
Moreover, a graduate with profound technical basis and management skills will never experience difficulties in finding a job at a high-paid position. The market needs experts who can support the product throughout its life cycle. The ability to see the product not only from the point of view of a narrow engineering task, but as an integrated project, as well as to be effective in its implementation, will allow the graduate of the program to occupy higher positions.
Admission conditions and special features
"We invite second — year bachelor degree students, who have entered MAI basing on the results of the unified state exam in computer science, mathematics and Russian," says Sergey Vyacheslavovich. — Our target audience is talented students who would like to obtain comprehensive knowledge that is not limited only to engineering, who are aware of a wide range of competencies required for future work, such as the need to save time, etc."
Digital economy is a full-time program that will be lectured in parallel with the main full-time course. The schedule of classes will be synchronized with the first training profile so that the student could be able to immerse themselves in the extended learning process and not worry about possible lack of time. Some classes will be held in the evening with the elements of distance learning.
The opportunity to enroll to the full-time program of the second higher education "Digital economy" will be opened at the fall semester for students of the 2nd year. The first semester is an introductory one, the students will participate in round tables, conferences, presentations, problem lectures, etc. And starting from the spring semester, training begins in the disciplines of the curriculum, which lasts for 2.5 years and ends simultaneously with the first education. Shortening of training is allowed due to the possibility of "re-enrollment" of a number of disciplines in the curriculum of the first education.
The curriculum comprises several kinds of practical activities: educational, industrial and pre-graduate. They will be both of a professional type and research nature. In part, they can be "re-credited" with the main training profile.
How to start the program
The candidate doesn’t have to take any entrance tests. The enrollment is based on the results of the exam (the results are stored in the personal file).
In order to enroll in the Digital economy program, the candidate should inform us about the desire via email, submit documents through the applicant's personal account and sign a contract, and you are a participant! July 1 to August 25, 2020 - is the period for submitting applications for training.
