MAI Students Won Bronzes at the World Tug of War Championship

For the first time in history, athletes from Moscow Aviation Institute took part in the World Indoor Tug of War Championship, which was held from February 19 to 23, in the Irish city of Letterkenny. The championship was attended by 12 teams from around the world.The Russian team included 20 athletes, of whom nine were students of Moscow Aviation Institute: Philip Guskov (School No. 2 “Aircraft, Rocket Engines and Power Plants”), Ivan Terekhov (School No. 1 “Aircraft Engineering”), Sergey Babichev and Andrey Skoromnov (School No. 6 “Aerospace”), Anisia Dubinets and Anastasia Chitalina (School No. 11 “Materials Science and Technology”), Anna Novikova and Irina Lesnikova (School No. 3 “Control Systems, Informatics and Electricity”), Olga Svistunova (School No. 4 "Radio Electronics, Info-communications and Information Security").The Russian team was presented in two categories. The first is a mixed team of young men and women under 23 in the weight category up to 560 kg. In the second category, only girls under the age of 23 years were represented in the weight category up to 500 kg. In the final battle, our athletes got two bronzes.The MAI tug of war team was formed in October 2018. The team trains on the basis of the MAI sports club under the leadership of the senior lecturer of the MAI physical education department Alexei Merzlikin.It is worth noting that the Russian tug of war team for the first time took part in the world championship. It was the MAI students and their coach who formed the backbone of the Russian national team to participate in the World Cup. However, this is not the first victory of MAI students outside the national team. The athletes won prizes in the championship of universities in tug of war, as well as in the championship of Russia among juniors and the Cup of Russia.
