Donor Days Was Held at MAI
On February 19 and 20, 2020, the Donor Days were held at Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University). Hundreds of participants are gathering blood donations at the university. Such success in the development of the donor movement became possible thanks to the creation of the MAI Volunteer Center. Its headquarters pays particular attention to informing and thoroughly preparing for action. Head of the MAI Volunteer Center Ekaterina Gruntovskaya told about this action in an interview with the portal "Blood Service".How is the work of volunteers at the MAI donor movement organized? Do you have a calendar of events for the entire academic year? For many years, students and staff of Moscow Aviation Institute have been participating in donor activities on a regular basis. Five years ago, a volunteer center was created at the university, and one of the main directions of its work is the development of the donor movement. The volunteer center annually takes part in various donor campaigns. Each semester at Moscow Aviation Institute together with the Blood Center named after O.K.Gavrilov holds Donor Days, the dates of which are included in advance in the main plan of activity of our volunteer organization. How many people who want to donate blood come on Donor Day at the university? Do you keep statistics on donors and blood donations? Each time, more than 300 students and university staff donate blood on a voluntary basis. We, of course, keep track of how many people come to donate blood, how much total blood donated. All data is accumulated in the Blood Center named after O.K. Gavrilov, who keeps statistics on donors and on the volume of donated blood. What points in the organization of Donor Days can you highlight as the most important? In fact, there are a lot of important organizational issues. Of these, information support for the event can be precisely identified. We strive to ensure that as many potential donors as possible can find out about the upcoming Donor Days, as well as thoroughly prepare for them. It is also important to coordinate and prepare a venue for the event in advance, to recruit volunteers to help with the event, and to organize a food center for event participants.Tell, on the example of specific people - your associates, how do they come to the donor movement?Everyone who becomes a donor or volunteer of the donor movement pursues their goals, but they are all driven by a single mission - to help people who need this help. There are guys in our Volunteer Center who have contraindications for blood donation. They become organizers of actions, help people in this way. What help does the university leadership and teaching staff provide? The university leadership provides comprehensive support in organizing and conducting Donor Days at Moscow Aviation Institute: information assistance, material support, which includes providing a platform for the action, food for donors and much more. Also, students and staff participating in the Donor Days are officially exempted from training and work activities.Do graduates continue to work with the donor movement?Yes, since many MAI graduates are today's university employees, they continue to participate in Donor Days. And our traditional question: what would you wish to donors and those who are just going to join the donor movement?I would like to wish them inexhaustible energy, good health, and also to continue to do good deeds, with the help of which our world will become much kinder.
