On February 15, a meeting with the MAI graduates - cosmonauts Nikolai Tikhonov and Andrei Babkin, who will depart to the ISS on April 9, was held at the Cosmonautics and Aviation Center at VDNH. The meeting was hosted by a graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute - cosmonaut and Hero of Russia Fyodor Yurchikhin. The meeting began with warm memories of MAI graduates, who talked about how the years of study at the university became fundamental on their way into space.Fyodor Yurchikhin noted that Moscow Aviation Institute is the leader in cosmonauts among graduates among higher education institutions. He told the guests of the event that among MAI graduates there are 23 cosmonauts who have worked in space for a total of more than 15 years. Fourteen of them made 65 spacewalks.Another participant of the meeting was Olga Valerianovna Tushavina, Head of the MAI School No. 6 "Aerospace". She told the participants how the university is currently training successful professionals who can achieve success in various field.“I want to wish you success. You once again confirm the words that we always say: “For students of Moscow Aviation Institute, nothing is impossible,” Olga Tushavina said. The meeting with cosmonauts was also attended by more than 30 MAI students. The students did not miss the opportunity to ask the cosmonauts questions about how to find their trajectory in life.“I think that there are no unnecessary sciences. You never know what you could use. I believe that exams at the Gagarin Research&Test Cosmonaut Training Center are already some sort of a high point where everything must be taken into account, and the exams at Moscow Aviation Institute prepare you for that level so that you can pass them,” said Andrei Babkin.Summing up the meeting, Fyodor Yurchikhin noted that the meeting was dedicated to the MAI community, and handed Tikhonov and Babkin the emblem of MAI cosmonauts.“The community of those who graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute is very strong. The emblem "Russian Cosmonauts and Graduates of Moscow Aviation Institute" was created. I hope that this little piece of the azure sky will warm you on the international space station,” said Fyodor Yurchikhin. The meeting with the cosmonauts became for all MAI community one of the pre-holiday events - on March 20, 2020, MAI will celebrate its 90th birthday.
