The Intellectual Battle of MAI Young Engineers at Science Up

December 5, 2019

On November 29, the third MAI scientific stand up Science Up was held at the university. The event was organized by Student Research Work Department (NIRS) and MAI student union.

Five MAI students spoke and joked about science, as well as a real stand-up professional attended the event - special guest Danila Kozhevnikov. Stand-up comedy is a comic style in which a comedian performs in front of a live audience, usually speaking directly to them.

The first in a comedy battle was Ekaterina Gorbunova, a second-year student of MAI School “Radio Electronics, Infocommunication and Information Security”, who decided to say “That's enough!” to the problems and prospects of drones.

The topic of UAVs was continued by Mikhail Kolodochka, a third-year student MAI School “Robotic and Intelligent Systems”, with a story about how a drone can pass exams for students.

Ekaterina Titova, a fifth-year student of MAI School “Robotics and Intelligent Systems”, answered the question on how to design an interface using her hands from her shoulders.

The next participant of MAI Science Up was a fourth-year student of MAI School “Control Systems, Computer Science, and Power Engineering” Vladislav Baranov. He spoke about what needs to be done so that glaciers do not descend from the mountains.

At the end of the event, the audience sense of humor was tested by a war veteran with software glitches Vasile Lelitsak, second-year Master’s degree student of MAI School “Control Systems, Informatics and Power Engineering.” The “real” stand-up comedian - Danila Kozhevnikov - closed the event.

Measuring the sound level of applause, the organizers chose the winner of the third MAI Science Up: Vladislav Baranov, who managed to draw attention to his development in an entertaining format - a device warning about an avalanche collapse. As the main prize, Vlad received electronic certificate with a value of 30,000 rubles to buy domestic equipment and electronics.

The first scientific and comedy battle MAI Science UP took place on November 29, 2018. At that time, four young MAI engineers presented their developments and studies to the audience. The winner got the opportunity to fly to the sky by plane.
