MAI Will Present at MAKS-2019 Display Technology for the Cockpit

Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) is developing electronic means of displaying information and indicator frames that supply the crew with the necessary data. Within the framework of the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2019, a range of indicators and a range of experimental indicator frames will be presented. Display frames will be demonstrated at the flight simulator.

The indicator uses a hardware-based image generation system and allows you to maintain a constant frequency of frame update at 60 Hz, regardless of the number of characters in the frame. Indicators are represented by the most popular formats, including a widescreen indicator. The developed hardware and software complex includes a computer-aided design system for indicator frames.

In development an indication, the goal was to reduce the information flow from the information-control field (ICF) to the operator. Experimental frames are aimed at creating an objective image of the flight and use minimal operator resources. New approaches to data visualization are aimed at reducing the reading time of the display and increasing the nativeness of visual images.

One example of the practical implementation of such solutions is the development of ICF of the crew cabin of a supersonic business jet, the feature of which will be a one-member crew.

“We are trying to find ways to visualize information that will allow the pilot to spend less time in an emergency on processing the information and making the right decision. The pilot controls the aircraft not on the basis of the numerical values on the indicator screen, but on the basis of the image of the flight, which is formed after their processing. The discrepancy between the flight image and the actual flight parameters of the aircraft negatively affects flight safety. Thus, one of the quality criteria for the ICF  of an aircraft can be considered the discrepancy between the image of the flight in the consciousness of the pilot and the objective parameters of the flight. In our work, we carry out the development and testing of indicators and indicators in order to improve the quality of aircraft ICF,” - said Gleb Boyarsky, an employee of Moscow Aviation Institute.
