Personnel for the Digital Economy: Rector of MAI at the “Ostrov 10-22”
On July 16, Mikhail Pogosian, the Rector of Moscow Aviation Institute, took part in the open-day events of the educational intensive Ostrov 10-22 at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech).
Mikhail Pogosian spoke at a panel discussion “Training for the Economy of the Future: How to Meet the Demand for the Digital Profession?”, which took place during the strategic session “Personnel for the Digital Economy”. The topic of discussion was the challenges facing the education system to meet the needs of the digital economy in highly qualified personnel and the impact of artificial intelligence systems’ development on education and the labor market.
Also, the discussion was attended by Deputy Minister of Education Marina Rakova, General Director of the autonomous non-profit organization “Digital Economy” Yevgeny Kovnir, Rector of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University Anatoly Aleksandrov and others.
“Training for the digital economy is a complex task. The IT-industry is a self-sufficient industry that is actively developing and is a consumer of a large number of personnel,” - said Mikhail Pogosian. - “But at the same time it is important that other industries have also developed today on the basis of digital technologies. The effect of the digital economy will be where new products are introduced, digital twins are used, new services are created: only then we will get a positive effect on the country's economy as a whole.”
The Rector of MAI also spoke at the panel discussion “The Place of Universities on the Global Technology Agenda” at the international conference “EdCrunch Island: Three University Models”. The event was attended by President of the Western Governors University Scott Pulsipher, President of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Shin Sung-chul, President of Technion the Israel Institute of Technology Peretz Lavie, and leader of the international PwC team on education Katrina McCasker. The discussion was moderated by Andrey Volkov, Scientific Director of the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo.
Answering the question about the necessary conditions for successful activity of the research and educational centers (REC) created within the National Project "Science", the Rector of MAI stressed the need for closer cooperation between the scientific and university communities.
“This is a complex process, but success will be only where is a real level of competitiveness in both scientific and practical areas. I do not think that a pure combination of fundamental “ - said Mikhail Pogosian. - “Success is possible in those areas where we have real competences in the global market: aviation, space, information technology, and others.”
Participation of Mikhail Pogosian in the educational intensive does not end there. On Sunday, July 21, he will speak on the Ostrov 10-22 with a visionary lecture on “How to Begin to Apply the Competences of the Future Today”. The Rector of MAI will tell students about changes in the labor market during the transition to Industry 4.0, digital transformation, management of complex projects in high-tech industries, as well as new approaches in educational programs on the example of projects implemented at the Moscow Aviation Institute.

Ostrov 10-20 is an educational conference, which goal is to create and develop regional university teams that can implement systematic changes in the field of training for technological development. It has drawn over 1500 participants from across Russia and abroad.
