International Session of Gagarin Science Conference - Dream of Speaker

April 19, 2019

On April 18, 2019, an international session as part of the XLV Gagarin Science Conference was held at MAI. It was attended by international students of MAI, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Gagarin Science Conference is one of the largest interdisciplinary youth conferences in Russia. This year it was held for the 45th time, and for the second year not only Russian young researchers, but also foreign ones were invited to participate.

The working language of the international session was English. 37 reports were submitted for participation in the conference by students from China, India, Madagascar, Uzbekistan, Morocco and Syria. Dean of the Faculty No. 1 “Aircraft Engineering” Alexander Efremov and Assistant Vice Rector for Scientific Work Leonid Ponyaev moderated two panel discussions of the international session.

"It’s a dream to be a speaker at such a conference. Preparation for the report was difficult, as it took a lot of effort and resources, but every chance to demonstrate our scientific work, learn the opinions of professionals and get a publication is important for us. This helps to deepen our study and make its topic more complex," - shared their impressions Gao Xiang and Lu Ding, students of the joint MAI-SJTU Master’s degree program.

Research reports of young engineers covered such topics as aircraft design, materials and equipment for building and launching spacecraft, propulsion engineering, control systems and application of aerial vehicles, market requirements, payback and life cycle of aircraft.

"This year the reports were interesting and advanced, the speakers themselves were erudite and interested in their research. If last year the students were engaged in their research work for a month or two, here they pretty deeply plunged into the study of scientific problems and understood how to further develop their work,"- Alexander Efremov commented on the level of speakers.

After the presentations and discussions, each speaker received a certificate of participation in the conference. The scientific works of all the speakers of the international session will be published in a separate issue of the XLV Gagarin Science Conference.

“This is the second time I've been taking part in the Gagarin Science Conference, and for me this event is serious," - Neeraj Pradhan, a graduate of the Master’s degree program in Aerospace Engineering of MAI, shared his opinion. - "Participation in such conferences introduces us to professionals, individuals and industry employees who work on various projects that unite the aviation world, introduces us to the ideas of other researchers, and makes it possible to find useful contacts and get to know people who work in the same field. This can give rise to productive cooperation and, consequently, improvement of technologies for the future of all mankind."
