MAI in Vietnam: Cooperation with Leading Universities and Olympiad for Schoolchildren

March 18, 2019

In late February - early March, representatives of Moscow Aviation Institute visited the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and took part in a number of events organized by the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi.

The delegation, headed by Deputy Head of the International Department of MAI, Alexey Zarechenskiy, met with the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. Last year, our university successfully started a cooperation with the Ministry for the admission of Vietnamese prospective students to MAI and this year we expect to receive even more students through the Ministry. There were also meetings and negotiations with the leaders of leading universities in Vietnam: Vietnam National University, Institute of Natural Sciences, Hanoi Polytechnic University, Viet Chi University of Technology and of course with the Le Quy Don Technical University (partner of MAI).

“Building partnerships with universities, preparing joint research projects and educational programs, academic exchange of students and academic staff are all very important for MAI projects and they were implemented very successfully in Vietnam,”- admitted Aleksey Zarechenskiy. - “We see a serious interest from Vietnamese technical universities in developing long-term strategic relationships."

For the first time, representatives of MAI took part in the Olympiad movement organized by the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. Selection events were held in Russian language, Mathematics, Physics and Computer science in order to select the most gifted schoolchildren and students to continue their studies at Russian universities on scholarships. Representatives of the International Department of MAI, together with teachers of the Russian language and Computer science, visited specialized schools in different cities of Vietnam. There they met prospective students, participated in the Olympiad, told the students about MAI and answered their questions.

“Vietnamese schoolchildren and students were very pleased with the arrival of the Russian delegation. In many schools, they learn Russian and plan to continue their education in Russia,”-  said Natalia Vodina, Deputy Head of the International Projects Department. – “They showed great interest in our university, particularly in IT specialties. We hope to meet the winners of the Olympiad in MAI very soon.”

As a fact, Vietnam is in the TOP-3 of foreign countries, by the number of students entered MAI - now almost 100 Vietnamese citizens are enrolled in various MAI programs. At the same time, teachers have consistently emphasized the high level of training of Vietnamese students, their responsible approach to study and hard work.

“In the famous Vietnamese fairy tale “Bamboo on a hundred tricks”, reflecting the Vietnamese attitude to life, the honored reward is received not a cunning rich man, but a honest worker. “Hard Workers” – one word can be used to describe all the Vietnamese children who took part in the XXVI Russian Olympiad in Hanoi,” – said the Russian language teacher Tatyana Litovchenko. – “I, as a practice teacher, working with Vietnamese students not only at MAI, but also at the Le Quy Don Technical University during business trips to Hanoi, is pleased to note the increasing popularity of the Russian language in Vietnam. Students participating in the Olympiad had a strong conviction: good professional skills can be obtained only in Russia. No wonder the Vietnamese student song has the following words: “If you want to have knowledge - go to study in Russia.”
