Russia Entry Procedure for international students

By order of the Russian Government dated March 16, 2020 No. 635-r (revised on March 16, 2021), international students, postgraduates, and trainees of pre-university departments are allowed to return to Russia to resume their studies. 

Be aware that clearance is granted only to students from countries deemed to have a safe epidemiological environment by the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (the information is current as of April 5, 2021, check for updates):

Before arriving in Russia

  1. Notify the MAI International Department 14 days before the arrival; send a copy of your ticket specifying the port of entry.
  2. Contact information:

    When booking your tickets, please be aware that all university offices are open strictly Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM (with a break from 1PM to 2 PM). 

    If you are arriving in the Russian Federation during off-hours, you need to book a hotel room.  

  3. Receive a permit to enter Russia from an MAI representative.
  4. Prepare a set of necessary medical certificates: 
    • lungs photofluorograph with no signs of tuberculosis;
    • medical clearance from a dermatologist/venerologist for living in a dormitory with a negative bacterioscopic analysis for STDs and negative blood tests for syphilis and HIV;
    • vaccination certificate with dates of vaccination against diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, measles, rubella, mumps, hepatitis B, and tuberculosis.
  5. Get a PCR test for COVID-19 in your country no earlier than 3 days before arriving in Russia. The test. The test results certificate must be in English or Russian.

After arriving in Russia

  1. Visit to the MAI clinic with your medical certificates to get a permit for dormitory accommodation. 
  2. Address: Ulitsa Konstantina Tsareva 12. 

    Working hours: Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM (with a break from 1PM to 2 PM).

  3. Visit the MAI International Department to submit the documents for migration registration and arranging a health insurance (the cost is 10 000 rubles).

  4. Required documents: copies of all passport pages (can be scanned at the University), migration card.

  5. Get the first PCR test for COVID-19 in Moscow. Please note that rapid test results are not accepted.

  7. Go to the MAI dormitory with the accommodation permit, where you will need to stay self-isolated until receiving the results of the PCR test for COVID-19 done in Moscow.

    If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms during self-isolation (high body temperature, sore throat, runny nose, cough), you need to immediately contact the University and call a doctor.

  9. As soon as you get the result of PCR test for COVID-19 made in Moscow, you need to get the second PCR test for COVID-19. Please note that rapid test results are not accepted. 
  10. After receiving two negative results you will be admitted to the educational process.

    Remember that you can be vaccinated with the Sputnik V vaccine in Moscow
