MAI teams at the second round of Rugby-7 games

On October 14 2018, at the Fili stadium, the second tour of Rugby-7 games in the framework of XXXI Moscow Student Sports Games was held.

At the first round of Rugby-7 first games, which was held on October 6-7, 2018, MAI international student’s team (MAI-2) made a victory over the majority of opponents and got to the first division. This allowed the team to continue a game in the second round with MAI-1.

MAI-1 team once again confirmed that it currently has no equal among students’ rugby teams of Moscow and entered the third tour.

Scoresheet of MAI-1:

- victory over the team Financial University with a score of 30:0;
- technical defeat by the MPEI team (non-appearance of the team on the game);
- victory over the team Financial University with a score of 31:0;
- victory over the team MEPhI with a score of 29:5

It was a much more challenging game for  MAI rugby team of international students. MAI-2 first met the strongest student teams in Moscow. “ In the due course of the Play offs, there was not a big advantage of the opposing teams, caused by the difference in the height-weight indicators of the players. In spite of this, MAI-2 proved to be selfless, technical rugby players and gave way to rivals in a bitter struggle, bringing the balls into the defensive game of each opposing team,” – said coach Valery Khromenkov.

Scoresheet of MAI-2 :

- defeat by the RUDN team with a score of 7:17;
- defeat by the MSU team with a score of 7:26;
- defeat by the MGSU team with a score of 7:21;
- defeat by the MGSU team with a score of 7:21;technical defeat to the MEI team (non-appearance of the team on the game).

The third round of the Championship will be held during the spring of 2019. We wish MAI -1 not to slow down the pace and not to give up the leading position, and MAI-2 to have a good preparatory season and gain a foothold in the first division of the Championship.

Before the spring games of the XXXI Moscow Student Sports Games among students in Rugby-7, our teams will participate in the Open Championship of Moscow Aviation Institute on rugby-touch and in the Winter Championship of Moscow in rugby-15 among students. Moreover, for many international students, it will be the first game in the snow.
